Sybil is located approximately 135km west of Townsville and 140km north of Charters Towers. Gold mineralisation was first identified at Francis Creek in 1986, where quartz veining displays classic low-sulphidation epithermal textures including colloform, crustiform and cockade textures.
The project is situated along a large, more than 40km-long extensional structure known as the Sybil Graben, which is infilled with Permian-Carboniferous volcanic rocks. Sunshine’s tenure covers the northern portion of this structure and encompasses a large area of prospective epithermal geology that remains underexplored.
Sybil has a number of geological similarities to the nearby Pajingo low-sulphidation epithermal gold system, which has produced approximately 4Moz of gold. These similarities include geological age, volcanic host rocks, structural setting and characteristic quartz-adularia vein textures associated with high-grade gold mineralisation.
